How do I use the Livingood Approved Scanner?Updated 15 days ago

To use the ingredient or barcode scanner, simply scan a product's barcode or ingredient list! Here are some recommendations for how to get your barcode and ingredient scanners to work best:

  • Be sure you are connected to wifi for best performance. (If you are not at home, try to connect to the wifi at the store to help!)
  • While scanning, you will need to make sure you're scanning the bar code the correct side up (look for the numbers on the barcode facing right side up). 
  • If it is not scanning and is spinning/loading, try to refresh, clean your camera, or check that you are allowing camera access to this app. You can do this by restarting the app to allow access.

  • Be sure you are connected to wifi for best performance. (If you are not at home, try to connect to the wifi at the store to help!)

  • Once you've taken a photo, crop the image to include only the ingredients. To get a list of alternative items, toggle from the Ingredient scanner to the Barcode scanner. 



Once scanned, a pop up will appear that highlights whether the item is Challenge Approved,  Lifestyle Approved, or if you shouldAvoid the item.

You'll see a break down of ingredients for more information as to why the food falls into its category. Clicking on theicon to the right of the ingredient name will pull up more specific information. If there is a relevant Youtube video associated with that ingredient, you'll be able to view the video directly in the App!

Livingood Approved Scanner Icons & what they mean: 

Challenge Approved 
For ingredients that are safe to eat on the Challenge Plan and Lifestyle Plan.
Lifestyle Approved
For ingredients that are safe to eat on the Lifestyle Plan, but should be avoided on the Challenge Plan. To maximize weight loss and stay on track with your goals, we suggest avoiding this item until your objectives are met.
For ingredients (a) that are open to interpretation or (b) a topic of contention depending on the diet you follow.
For ingredients not in accordance with the Livingood Lifestyle or possibly harmful based on the diet you follow.


Lifestyle Approved vs. Challenge Approved

Challenge Approved: In the simplest of terms, before goals are met. When you join the Challenge, we recommend setting a goal based on how you would like to build health. This will help you to stay motivated and focused on the Challenges. Before you have achieved this goal, you would follow the Challenge Approved Guidelines and Challenge Meal Plan.  

Lifestyle Approved: In the simplest of terms, after goals are met. As you work through Challenges, you will accomplish your goals and start to live within the Livingood Lifestyle. This is when you would start to focus on the Lifestyle Approved Food List to continue to make this sustainable for you long term.
